PHARMACOLOGY :

 

Rabeprazole belongs to a class of antisecretory compounds that suppress the gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the gastric H+ K+ ATPase at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells. Since this enzyme is regarded as an acid (proton) pump within the parietal cells Rabeprazole is has been characterized as a gastric proton pump inhibitor (PPI). Rabeprazole blocks the final step of gastric acid secretion.

 

INDICATION AND DOSAGE:

Healing of Erosive or Ulcerative Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) 20 mg to be taken daily for 4-8 weeks.

Maintenance of erosive or ulcerative GERD 20 mg to be taken daily.

Healing of Duodenal Ulcers 20 mg to be taken daily after morning meal for a period of up to 4 weeks.

Treatment of pathological hypersecretory conditions, including Zollinger Ellison Syndrom 60 mg once a day, dosage adjustment to meet individual patient needs and should continue for as long as clinically indicated. Dosages up to 100 mg QD and 60 mg BID have been administered.
